Where I focus more on fluff and rules, Will is a Code Cowboy, and has put out several utterly mind blowing applications, among them amazing character creators for 2020, Red, and Cybergeneration. Lifepath generators, Netrunning applications, fashion calculators, and much more. But we both have been playing this game pretty much since the beginning, and between the two of us, we are two of the only Cyberpunk 2020 megasite operators still active.<br /></p><p></p><p>Will and I continue our conversations. I was kind of nervous about it at first, but we are 5 episodes in now, and I gotta say it feels pretty natural and comfortable. The goal is, we talk about Cyberpunk 2020 and all things even remotely related from the specific viewpoint of 2020 fans.<br /></p><p></p><p>The first 4 episodes are our looong and ridiculously in depth review of Cyberpunk 2077, the video game based on Cyberpunk 2020, and the most controversial video game to come out in recent memory. There is also a solo episode from Will, as I was down feeling the effects of my second Covid shot... ooof. With episode 5 we begin our 2 part review of Cyberpunk Red. Afterwards, we will continue to have our conversations, about various movies, shows, other games, both tabletop and video, and anything else even tangentially related, from the perspective of how it might relate to, or inspire, that Cyberpunk RPG life.<br /></p><p>We are Tales From The Forlorn Dopes, and are hosted by Rob Mulligan on his <span style="color: #ff00fe;"><a href="https://www.cyberpunkuncensored.com/" target="_blank">Cyberpunk Uncensored</a></span> channels on Twitch and Youtube.</p><p></p><p>You can catch us live every other Wednesday on Twitch here: <span style="color: #0000ee;"><b><a href="https://www.twitch.tv/cyberpunkuncensored" target="_blank">Tales From The Forlorn Dopes </a></b></span><br /></p><p>Alternatively you can find the podcast archives here on Youtube: <span style="color: #ff00fe;"><b><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeMOgUx67UMLzB6rcovmRJ8c73qjWm2We" target="_blank">Tales From The Forlorn Dopes</a></b></span><br /></p><p>As a side note, sadly, its that time again. The hosting subscription for Datafortress 2020 is coming up for renewal, and as always, its expensive. Please, if you like Datafortress and what it has provided you over the years, think about making a donation. I know I don't update much these days, I am hoping to change that, but I hope the site still has some value to you. Heck, even if your support is just kind words, I will take whatever love I can get. I'm easy like that.</p><p>Thanks,</p><p>Wisdom000<br /></p>Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-53983704856791104222021-03-15T08:12:00.000-07:002021-03-15T08:12:21.312-07:00Wow, someone made playlists of my compilations!<div data-contents="true"><div class="" data-block="true" data-editor="l00d" data-offset-key="j40m-0-0"><div class="_1mf _1mj" data-offset-key="j40m-0-0" style="text-align: center;"><span data-offset-key="j40m-0-0"><span data-text="true"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpBd8idTFsaECZ1SZ-i_4yeOmFUVw4fmDBJOjOyRjoCNIMdTZutYfFzux9rbS-ssF6M5nr2pok2dLfERjNwFOpV55uLcE9uhI4P3bQKDFA3_zvDg3mqhiYXtVyrWBSm-NGxMEIKQpWCXY/s1000/cp2020cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title=""><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="1000" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpBd8idTFsaECZ1SZ-i_4yeOmFUVw4fmDBJOjOyRjoCNIMdTZutYfFzux9rbS-ssF6M5nr2pok2dLfERjNwFOpV55uLcE9uhI4P3bQKDFA3_zvDg3mqhiYXtVyrWBSm-NGxMEIKQpWCXY/w556-h278/cp2020cover.jpg" title="" width="556" /></a></div><br /></span></span></div><div class="_1mf _1mj" data-offset-key="j40m-0-0"><span data-offset-key="j40m-0-0"><span data-text="true">Holy crap.... FINALLY! Something in 2020 went right, and its about damn time. I am going to get completely lost in these games, coming up for breath, sleeping with the book next to me, controller in hand. I have waited soooooo long for both of these items.... Reviews when I have had time to properly absorb them, immerse myself, drown myself in Cyberpunk fucking goodness! I will say, right off the bat, Cyberpunk Red is the single most beautiful RPG book I own, and Cyberpunk, is visually, the most perfect representation of Cyberpunk I have ever seen!<br /></p>Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-65688836921283065902020-09-12T02:49:00.003-07:002020-09-12T03:47:57.777-07:00A Minor Update<p><a href="http://datafortress2020.com/" target="_blank">DATAFORTRESS 2020 HAS BEEN UPDATED </a><br /></p><p> Hey all, it's been a while since I dropped an update, this is a small one, mostly just cleaning up the Hyperlinks page. Sadly, we have lost a great many more, including the great Chris Conkles Cyberpunk 2k2, one of the original megasites, and a source of personal inspiration. But, with the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 video game, and the hype around Cyberpunk Red, the digital highways are once again spawning new sites, most take the form of blogs and video reviews, like the fantastic video blog hub of <a href="https://www.cyberpunkuncensored.com/" target="_blank">Cyberpunk Uncensored</a>, giving voice to the excitement surrounding all things cyberpunk these days, or wiki type pages like the massive <a href="https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Main_Page" target="_blank">Cyberpunk Wiki</a>, detailing every edition and version of the game we love, from Cyberpunk 2013 to Red, and even the video game. I have also included the relevant Reddit and Facebook groups.<br /></p><p> Some more traditional sites have appeared as well, a welcome site to my eyes. The best news is that <a href="http://cybersmily.net/" target="_blank">Cybersmily's Datafort</a>, once lost, is back and better than ever, with tons of new content and regular updates. Cybersmily is an old friend and collaborator, and his site is fantastic.</p><p> If you know of a site that I missed, please drop me a link and I will try and get it added. <br /></p><p> The only new material I have added this update is something that has been sorely needed, an editable Interlock Unlimited character sheet in excel format. Playing online just got much easier, as this is a full editable version of my IU character sheets, with all the relevant information, including the Combat Page, complete with Combat Actions so you can make the most of your IU games. </p><p>I have found that distributing the character sheets to your players, then having each of them individually share them back to you via Google Sheets, is the best way for a GM and player to share a sheet, allowing for instant editing and auditing by both parties. </p><p> With the excitement around 2077 and Red, lots of you are creating new material, if you would like your material to be hosted on Datafortress 2020, by all means, please get in touch with me.<br /></p><p>The campaign I am currently running is based on the Glass Road sourcebook I have had on the back burner for years. Running a game in that setting will hopefully allow me to further flesh out the ideas and finally get the sourcebook written.</p><p></p><p>I am also still working on the Night City District guide, though that is going much more slowly and painfully than I hoped. Sadly, with my back pain and other health problems, sitting in front of the computer and typing, is something of an agonizing ordeal. But I am not giving up.</p><p>Also on a low simmer, is an idea for an espionage based sourcebook, for running high level globe spanning games. I don't know if it will spawn a Conflict Eastern Europe sourcebook separately, or if my ideas for that will just get folded into the espionage idea, but that material is swimming insidiously around in my head as well.</p><p> It seems like Cyberpunk Red is being pushed back a little again, a recent announcement by R. Talsorian states that with the pandemic, they will be unable to make the end of summer release they were hoping for. That's fine, I would rather get the product as polished as possible. Jay Gray has been doing a bang up job as R.Tal's ambassador, so if you see him, give him his props. I have the kickstarter, and I can say this, the art is fantastic, it is simply beautiful. The rules are a mix of Interlock and Fuzion, and I am waiting till the full version is in my hand before passing any judgement. If you want a glimpse of what the full rules have to offer, my friend Rob Mulligan at Cyberpunk Uncensored, has been given a playtest advanced copy, and is live streaming his games. I'm pretty jealous, would love to get my hands on that.</p><p>Lastly, there is just a ton of swag and promo material being released for 2077. Clothing, comics, art books, guides, action figures, statues, keychains, posters, puzzles, and on and on.... the problem is, so much of it is so ridiculously expensive, that I will never be able to get my hands on it... like that statue from E3, or really any of the official product from CDPR, and those high end action figures with the motorcycle are so incredibly cool... oh well, hopefully I can keep up with the Red merchandise and promo material...<br /></p><p></p><p>I hope you are all staying safe in this time of pandemic and civil unrest. And in case you doubt where I stand, wear a mask, fight fascism, and Black Lives Matter.</p><p>Love and Bullets,</p><p>Wisdom000<br /></p><p> <br /></p><p><br /></p>Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-47927138834829099582020-01-13T00:29:00.001-08:002020-01-13T00:29:18.401-08:00It's 2020... Long Live Cyberpunk!So 2020 is here. It is now the game of the Dark Present. Back when I first started playing this game, it seemed so far away, so impossibly the future...<br />
<br />
This is actually the second time this has happenned. True fans of the game recognize we hit this first back in 2013, which was when the first edition of the game was set. But far more people recognize 2020 as the true edition of the game. Of course now we have Cyberpunk Red, and between it, and the hype from the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game, a whole new wave of fans are rushing to join us. Be gracious hosts my friends, new lie if being breathed into the game, and new faces have that old pulse going strong again. <br />
<br />
Regardless which edition you play, Original, 2020, Cybergeneration, V3, or Red, or even homebrew systems and settings, this game has withstood the test of time. It is the original, the truest, the most pure, game of it's genre. This game in fact helped cement the term cyberpunk as a genre in and of itself. It's origins are strong, taking direct inspiration from the foundations of the genre, across all mediums. Literature, Cinema, Anime, Comics, Manga, Music.... with this game, with this franchise, you have been able to perfectly replicate that theme, that feeling, that atmosphere, that drew you to the worlds of dark tomorrow.<br />
<br />
And now we are here. It's uncanny how much of the book prophesied what has come to pass. It didn't get everything right, we aren't traveling in flying minivans, and we cannot download out consciousness into the net... yet. We have lived to see some miraculous things. Bionic prosthetics are becoming a reality. Technology is improving quality of life faster than we can keep up with it. We don't have cyberdecks, but we do carry around cellphones with the entirety of human knowledge at our fingertips 24/7. Sadly, we are also living in a dystopia, under the thumb of a nightmare political hellscape, at the mercy of the corrupt and the ignorant, kowtowing to the corporate overlords and the living at the military industrial complex.<br />
<br />
Of course there is light at the end of the tunnel, we are cyberpunks, we fight for a better world, or at least a better future. We fight for those who can't fight for themselves. We fight the corporations putting wealth before humanity. We fight the bigots and the ignorant who can't see past there own experiences. We fight the system that seeks to crush any resistance to maintain the status quo. We fight for progress, we fight for change.<br />
<br />
And we also play our silly little game. Because in our games, we can at least pretend that things are getting better, even in the face of darkness. <br />
<br />
To all the fans of Datafortress 2020, thank you for riding alongside me all these years. Here is to the future. That neon street hasn't come to an end, we just hit an intersection with the present. As long as there is a tomorrow, this game will have a place.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-3873844028315684322020-01-12T23:56:00.000-08:002020-01-12T23:56:25.173-08:00On running Horror...Horror games are difficult to run. This was a post I wrote on RPGNET back in 2008, but it's still might have something worth sharing in here... <br />
<br />
The truth is, that the reason horror games don't work most of the time,
is that systems designed for horror games, simply by definition, do not
allow a gm to create horror. A horror game is premised around making
the characters afraid. We fear what we don't understand. If you are
running Cthulhu, or dungeons and dragons, or vampire, or dark
metropolis, or whatever..... you can't scare the players, because they
know what to expect the second they look through the rule book.
Monsters are statted out, and any player who has played in that system
more than a week will have a pretty good grasp of what to expect from
the system, and thus be impervious to actual fear.<br />
<br />
You want to run a horror campaign, you have to hit the players with something unknown. <br />
<br />
If you actually want to play a horror game, don't play Cthulhu, play a
system that doesn't have rules for supernatural elements at all. Play
it for several sessions so that the players get comfortable with the
world, and feel they have a grasp on what is going on. Then, out of
nowhere, start introducing the unknown... doesn't have to be anything
actually supernatural, but if you give players the idea it is, then they
will be caught completely off guard. <br />
<br />
That's the first part of the illusion..... the second part is..... don't
show them the monster. Seriously.... this is the basic premise of all
the best horror movies. Once you put a face on something, no matter how
horrific, it becomes less frightening because you can now relate to it.
You can't talk about how the mere sight of the horror drives men mad,
and then show them a picture of Cthulhu, because while hideous, it's
simply not that scary....<br />
<br />
Let that unknown fear build and build, until the climax, then and only
then can you show them what they are up against...... because you will
only have a brief period of time before the "shock" wears off, and they
stop reacting like people in a movie theater watching, and start
thinking like players again, thinking in terms of strategy and
tactics... that's simply the mindset that these games instill. You
don't have to railroad the players, and in fact doing so completely
removes the effect. You also don't need to attack the players
directly.... just create the suggestion that at any moment something
terrifying is going to happen. You have to create suspense.<br />
<br />
Case in point. I have been running Cyberpunk 2020 since 1989.... at no
point have I EVER allowed super powers, magic, psionics, or the
supernatural to corrupt my game. My players know this, they understand
this, and they respect it.<br />
<br />
A few years ago, during a nomad campaign, the characters were sent in as
part of the crew to rebuild Chicago, which had laid waste by a plague
and left to rot... They were told of strange happenings around the
sears tower, other nomads talking of it as if it were cursed, people disappearing from the area, and that anyone who dared enter was never
seen again. They talk of odd lights, and eerie noises.....<br />
<br />
The characters were offered generous reward to go into the tower and clear it so reconstruction could begin.<br />
<br />
As the characters went in, it was described how immediately the quality
of air changed, as they began to explore each level, things got
progressively weirder the higher up they went... (I will fully admit
that I used the oldest trick in the book, and we played in the dark,
flashlights used only for necessity like rolling dice, trips to the
bathroom, etc..)<br />
<br />
They began hearing a distant whistling, they noticed small things, like
dried blood smeared on the walls, and all the wires in the building had
been removed, taken out of walls, ceilings, and from electronic devices,
etc... As they went up higher they noticed all these little fetishes
made in the shape of a man made out of wire, hanging from the ceiling,
in doorways, etc...<br />
<br />
Higher up still they would come across walls or mounds made entirely
from rodent skulls. The blood on the walls was no longer just smeared
but some kind of crazy gibberish writing... <br />
<br />
They get up to the fiftieth floor, just as the sun is setting, they
start coming down a long hallway that runs from one side of the building
to the other, with a fierce wind blowing through, in the middle of the
hallway, silhouetted by the sun behind it, seemingly suspended in mid
air, is what looks like a huge body, arms and legs spread out wide,
bloated, little things, that look like worms seems to be moving all over
it , and the whole hallway is filled with a loud eerie wailing...<br />
<br />
The players themselves, not just the characters, as so afraid and
nervous, that they spend a full hour peeking at this thing from around
the corner, one of them shoots it and the "body" shakes in mid-air and
the wind and howling increase....<br />
<br />
Finally one of the players can't take it anymore and rushes it, only to
find that the "body" itself is nothing more than a huge version of one
of the wire fetishes, supported by fine wire holding it in place... The
"fetish" itself was creating the wailing, as wind whipped over and
through the wires that made up its body<br />
<br />
Things continued like this, with the entire situation getting weirder and weirder... till one of the NPC's that was with them disappears.... then
another.....<br />
<br />
They hear screams and watch from a window as one of the NPC's is thrown
with incredible force from the building from the floor above, screaming
his head off as he flies towards the ground only to dissapear in the fog
that has crept in around the city...<br />
<br />
They ever so slowly go up to the next floor, only to find another,
smaller fetish, similarly suspended in a hallway.... immediately they
think it to be harmless and continue towards it, only for it to start
moving and shaking on its own.... again the players themselves are
surprised and actually scared and begin shooting the fetish.... this
time it bleeds and screams.... they unload on it... they get up to it,
and realize, its the other NPC, wrapped in wire, and suspended in
place...<br />
<br />
At his point one of the players, demands I turns the lights on or he is
going home.... when I do he is sitting in the chair visibly shaking....<br />
<br />
That moment.... that very precise moment..... is what I consider my
absolute crowning achievement in running a game. To illicit a real
world player response to the game and what is happening to his
character. I have never been able to top it, and my players still talk
about it to this day as the best single session they have ever taken
part in, I have heard from strangers who game how my players bragged on
me about that session...<br />
<br />
I am not saying this because I am wanting to toot my own horn, though I
know it sounds like I am. I am saying that to achieve that effect, you
have to hit the players with something they simply had no way of
expecting. The essence of horror is the unexpected, the unknown....
And in games where the players know they are in a horror setting, that
is almost impossible. <br />
<br />
Just like your villain can't make a character fear for his life by
holding a knife to a PC's throat using 2nd edition D&D rules
(because the player knows that the villain can't do enough damage in a
single round to kill them), you can't scare the players in a game where
they know what to expect. Just like once you have seen one Freddy Kruger movie (if that sort of thing scares you) then even if you were
scared the first time, you will never be scared by it again because you
know what is going to happen.<br />
<br />
The key to a horror game is creating fear, not just for the characters,
but for the players themselves. If you go to a horror movie, and it
doesn't scare you, it has failed at its purpose... not saying it isn't a
good movie, just that it didn't accomplish what it was supposed to do.
The same is true for running a horror game, the desired outcome should
be to instill fear.<br />
<br />
And in the end, it doesn't have to have any supernatural or superhuman
elements at all..... it just matters that the players don't know that.
The sears tower thing turned out to just be bat-shit crazy survivors of
the plague, which were still scary at the time, but nothing supernatural
about them, even though my players during the game were POSITIVE that
they were dealing with something beyond the pale...Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-54619096966663754892018-09-08T03:25:00.001-07:002018-09-08T03:29:12.311-07:00File Project up and running again.<span style="font-size: small;">After
having a fair amount of problems with the
File Project, I seem to have finally gotten everything
sorted and working again. I apologize sincerely for
the inconvenience. Sadly, in the course of fixing things, it seems all the visit and download stats reverted to roughly 2013. Ugh. Please let me know if you have any
trouble from here on out. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">That being said, I am
working on actual updates again, in particular the Night
City District Guide expansions and Glass Road. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Lastly, I
have removed the links to the large Bundle files, Dropbox no longer
allows public linking to large files, and I have yet to find a suitable
replacement. If anyone has suggestions for a host for large, publicly
shared files, feel free to get ahold of me.</span>Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-21985279974983143352018-09-06T16:56:00.000-07:002018-09-06T16:57:05.950-07:00Ok, just to address the issue, I am having lots of problems with the File Project. For some reason it keeps doing this thing where suddenly guests are not allowed to download, when they try it gives them a "hotlinking not allowed" message. I have lucked my way into fixing it, most likely as a temporary measure, but the truth is I know nothing about web design (as if I had to tell anyone who has seen my site that). The File Project is a 4images site, but I can find no information on how to effectively deal with the problem. I can't even get 4images to update properly. If anyone is more competent with 4images than I am and wants to help, well as the song goes, I ain't to proud to beg.<br />
<br />
Also, I am well aware the dropbox links on the front page of Datafortress 2020 don't work. Dropbox no longer seems to allow public access to files, so I am looking or alternatives. If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.<br />
<br />
Sorry for the inconvenience.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-13766474873074252752018-08-31T11:28:00.001-07:002018-08-31T11:28:34.019-07:00Digital Orgasm... Alright, by now you guys have seen the trailers for Cyberpunk 2077, if you haven't and need to be caught up, here you go...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8X2kIfS6fb8/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8X2kIfS6fb8?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<br />
Amazing innit?<br />
<br />
Now we have been blessed with a 45 minute long game-play video.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/vjF9GgrY9c0/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vjF9GgrY9c0?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />Visually, the game gets it absolutely perfect. In terms of replicating the feel, the atmosphere. the sights and sounds, and most importantly, the ATTITUDE of Night City, the execution of hat we have seen so far is flawless. I will let you make up your own minds as far as the mechanics observed and will refrain from comment here.<br />
<br />
I am ridiculously hyped for this game, more so than any other game, EVER. <br />
<br />
I am also very slowly working on updates to the site, as pain and discomfort make sitting at a keyboard somewhat difficult.<br />
<br />
Lastly, there may be big news coming soon, watch this space.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-79696490763340599132017-07-06T15:24:00.000-07:002017-07-06T15:26:13.429-07:00The Datafortress 2020 File Project is restored!Ok, so I am out of the hospital. Thank you everyone for your messages and vibes.<br />
<br />
As for the site, what happened was, I got a message from the host that the site was using too many scripts, which I though was weird, since the site doesn't have any scripts, then I realized that some sections of the project file still had comments turned on, and spam bots were running rampant. Infortunately I was also heavily sedated and medicated at the time, (Dilauded is fricking awesome yo) and thought it would be a great time to deleted all the users I didn't recognize... which apparently turned into all users, which apparently included myself... because I am a fucking idiot. Now keep in mind, I am doing this all from a shitty 80 dollar viking tablet, and again, all fucked up on pain killers. This is where I started messing around where I shouldn't have, and end up fucking everything up.<br />
<br />
Luckily, now, at home, and more lucid, I restored the site from an external hd and my brothers computer, so the File Projext, including the Archive and Interlock Unlimited is up and running again.<br />
<br />
Please, let me know if you run into any problems, and again, sorry for the inconvenience.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-54488540458995783152017-07-04T11:45:00.002-07:002017-07-04T11:45:16.408-07:00So... I am back in the hospital with pancreatitis again. <br />
<br />
Somehow in my medication and pain induced haze I have managed to accidentally deleted all files from the Datafortress 2020 File Project with my shitty tablet.<br />
<br />
I think I can restore it, but not until I can get access to a real computer. So until they release me from hospital I am afraid the PDF files for the site are unavailable. <br />
<br />
My apologies. <br />
<br />
Will update when the File Project is restored.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-80998236213606584132017-06-15T20:08:00.000-07:002017-06-15T20:08:28.999-07:00Thank you everyone, with your help Datafortress 2020 has been funded for another 2 years. As soon as I am able, all donors will have NPC'S named after them in future projects. But now, I am going to thank you all directly. All the gratitude in the world, the following people!ever saved the site:<br />
<br />
Trentin Bergeron<br />
Alexander Siegelin<br />
Karsten Voigt<br />
Adam Black<br />
Kent Beyers<br />
David Lamb<br />
<br />
Tremendous love to you all!<br />
<br />
Hopefully soon I can get equipped again and get back to work on the site.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-68117366861265423452017-05-08T21:52:00.001-07:002017-05-08T21:52:32.517-07:00Where I beg shamelessly for donations again...I hate this, not least of which because I haven't been able to update the site in any significant manner. Last summer I made headway on be Night City guide entries, then the computer's motherboard ate itself. Between that and health matters, I don't have much success getting any work done.<br />
<br />
I am on disability as my sole income now, your donations are what kept the site up and running for the last 2 years. I will never be able to fully express my gratitude for that. Unfortunately the time has come to pay the host again, and on a fixed income, this is an expense that I am afraid I just can't afford without help.<br />
<br />
Make no mistake, I have not given up on the site, and I hope to get back to updating it again as soon as I can afford another computer, but I can't promise when that will be.<br />
<br />
But I do implore you, if Datafortress 2020, Interlock Unlimited, and the Cyberpunk 2020 Archive mean anything to you, and you can spare it, please help me keep it alive by donating with the icon on the right side of the page.<br />
<br />
Thank you.<br />

Every single one of these albums works because they are perfect at creating a mood without being distracting. What makes them work, is that they are mostly instrumental albums, and any lyrics are not in English, which keeps players from trying to sing along, thus creating a distraction for the game. Without further Adieu, and in no certain order, here are the six most perfect albums of background music for gaming you can buy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zm4E4umP9Qc/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zm4E4umP9Qc?feature=player_embedded" style="clear: left; float: left;" width="320"></iframe>1. Dune (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) <br />
The Toto soundtrack to the David Lynch movie. Simply epic.... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/LUF_3oKlX_U/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LUF_3oKlX_U?feature=player_embedded" style="clear: left; float: left;" width="320"></iframe><br />
<br />
2. Peter Gabriels Passion<br />
This album is the soundtrack to the film, The Last Temptation Of Christ. Do not let that sway you in any way, judge the album on it's own merits. Gabriel immersed himself in the music of the region, Arabic, Aramaic, and Hebrew traditional music fuzed with a modern edge, this album is a must own... Also of note is his follow up, Passion Sources, which is a compilation of some of the music that inspired the sounds of his album. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://img.discogs.com/EMwoYOZD8L1v-WnIb09OlbpyzVc=/fit-in/300x300/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(40)/discogs-images/R-2142270-1424039066-6692.jpeg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="https://img.discogs.com/EMwoYOZD8L1v-WnIb09OlbpyzVc=/fit-in/300x300/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(40)/discogs-images/R-2142270-1424039066-6692.jpeg.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
3. Akira Symphonic Suite<br />
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2wqzi7 <br />
This albums is a masterpiece, this album is so good at keeping players on their toes, not knowing what to expect from one moment to the next, breathless with enthusiasm and trepidation, that when I worked at the Devil's Darkside Haunted House in Kansas City when it opened in 1991, I convinced the owners to use it as background music... it continued being used after I left in 1996, presumably up until it closed.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ENBX_v1Po1Y/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ENBX_v1Po1Y?feature=player_embedded" style="clear: left; float: left;" width="320"></iframe><br />
4. Rodrigo Y Gabriela 11:11<br />
<br />
The best musical act you have never heard of. This acoustic guitar duo operate with a level of talent most popular musicians can only dream of. If you are not hooked after watching that video, you have no soul. Of all the labums on this list, this might be the most distracting, if only because anyone who listens to it will eventually start tapping in time...<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/k_UfHToc50E/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/k_UfHToc50E?feature=player_embedded" style="clear: left; float: left;" width="320"></iframe></div>
5. Beastie Boys The In Sounds From Way Out <br />
This is the first instrumental album from the Beastie Boyz, a funk and acid jazz excursion showcasing that the Boyz talent extends far beyond just rhymes and punk. Their second instrumental album, The Mix-Up, is every bit as good.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0f/Joe_Satriani_Surfing_With_the_Alien.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a>
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/uoERl34Ld00/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uoERl34Ld00?feature=player_embedded" style="clear: left; float: left;" width="320"></iframe><br />
<br />
<br />
6. Joe Satriani's Surfing With The Alien<br />
<br />
Guitar God, Joe Satriani's signature album.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
There you have it, my picks for best background music. Feel free to argue at me in the comments section.

I have am picking scabs at dozens of new entries for the district guide, and in fact have a solid outline for pretty much the entirety of the project detailing Night city beyond the sourcebook. I have collaborators on that project I believe that I am excited to be working with, John and Nancy Taft...John and I are kind of Heart Bypass buddies, we had them at roughly the same time, but we are long time Cyberpunk pals. That's in addition to some of the small contributions to the District Guide project made by others over the years. Anyone else who wants to collaborate on the project, if you have ideas from your campaign you wanna see made into Datafortress 2020 canon, please get with me, here, on facebook, or by e-mail.
I am also giving lots of thought to Glass Road, and think I might be moving forward on that simultaneously.
And finally, I have a side project, not related to Datafortress, one I may actually try and sell/get published... its a couple of ideas that have been kicking around my head for a while.
I also think I may have finally figured out a position I can run game from, so I might be running an online game or two very soon. Any of my CP peeps, or any of my friends really if you wanna try something new, if interested, let me know as above...Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-77026300257754102322016-07-27T14:23:00.000-07:002016-07-27T14:23:06.762-07:00A small rant on image farming and wiritng inclusively...Writing fan supplements for an RPG offers advantages ages that other forms of writing do not. For one, it often allows me to choose the illustrations first, and write based on them, as opposed to the more traditional way of writing, which is to pray you can find or create an illustration to match after the fact. However, occasionally I need to find very specific images, because I have written myself into a corner. And because I can't do anything easy, the specifics of these images are often crazy difficult to find, anywhere. Case in point, i Am working on a write-up for a lesser, but upcoming, Asian based street gang. Now, because I am running a game at the same time, some of this is my fault, such as, I need to find an image of a fairly attractive south east Asian girl, preferably Vietnamese or Laotian, with a horrible scar around her eye... she is third in command of a gang in Night City called the Ghost Disciples. A gang made up of orphans and runaways of mostly Asian or mixed descent. I also need to find suitable group shots, which is also more difficult than it should be. I have a simply ridiculous number of images waiting in the wings to be used, more than I will probably ever be able to use, and more added daily, but sometimes the right image eludes me completely.
In these times, as I am trying to be a better ally, and a better writer, I find myself worrying a lot, especially when trying to walk the fine line between cool homage to the concepts of my favorite media, in particular Hong Kong and exploitation cinema, and cultural sensitivity. Sometimes it's impossible to avoid stereotypes, but I always try to make the character or concept more than any stereotype. When such stereotypes are present, it's due to the cool factor, and never the negative connotations. But even the positive stereotypes are still stereotypes, and still can be harmful. In the end, I write for myself, and of course for my gaming group, and while to me, having a gang based on blaxploitation and kung fu in a cyberpunk city, and having their leaders be based on Sho Nuff, Pam Grier, and Jim Kelly, who also run a pizza, sushi, and taco arcade attached to their dojo, is the coolest thing I could imagine.... I do still worry that it might come across as offensive. I worry about that, I worry about making anyone feel marginalized. I didn't used to, but I like to think I have grown since then, and these days it's important to me to be a better writer, and a better person.
Without sounding like to much of a pretentious ass, in the very small niche circles of people who play Cyberpunk 2020, I am afforded a small bit of fame/infamy. Some people like people, some people hate me, but in this small circle, I am pretty well known. However, even though the creator of the game is a person of color, the game's audience, like most RPG's, is predominately white. Before I started my site, when I still lived in KC, I counted POC in my gaming group. I live in NW Arkansas now, where trying to find anyone, let alone POC, interested in playing Cyberpunk is a nightmare, one not made easier by the limitations of my back problems. Now in my online circle of friends who play the game, there are a couple of people of color. I listen to the input and feedback of these people very closely. But I worry that asking directly for it, would in itself be problematic. I am an insecure mess if you couldn't tell. Anyway, if any of you fans of the site out there are people of color, or gay, or women, or really any group that might feel marginalized, if you come across something on my site that you feel is problematic, please feel free to talk to me about it, Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-5046657551821967782016-07-24T03:41:00.001-07:002016-07-24T03:41:41.755-07:00Finally, I have gone through and meticulously cleaned up all the broken links (I hope), and replaced all the old links to e-mail me with my new e-mail address (wisdom000@gmail.com). I also used the opportunity to clean up some of the image heavy pages where things would get jumbled and difficult to read. Removed most of the background images that made reading some pages a headache (especially Lost Angeles and Autumn Blade) and in general just cleaned things up a bit. I hope you guys enjoy the effects of this maintenance run, and please, if you find a broken link, or an e-mail pointing to the old *droc* addy, let me know.

For most of my life I have had back problems, stemming from hurting my self while helping build levees around KC during the great midwestern flooding of the early 90's. What started out as minor pain became much worse when I was in a minor car accident a few years ago, which shifted my L5 vertebrae out of alignment about 3 years ago.. The condition has deteriorated into crippling pain that not only cost me my job, but has left me with no means to find a new one, and for the time being no source of income. I have trouble even walking from the bedroom to the living room, and only leave the house when absolutely necessary. I also cannot sit up straight, such as in a computer chair, for more than a few minutes. I am on heavy painkillers, but that is a temporary measure at best, as soon enough my body will acclimate to them.
To complicate matters, as some of you know, about a year and a half ago I had problems with my heart, which led to the placement of 2 stents. Unfortunately the stents did not work, and in September I underwent double bypass surgery. It's a strange thing to be cracked open like a buffet crab leg and have your heart molested by a room of strangers... Luckily, thanks to the ACA I have insurance, but the situation has not helped matters at all. I just graduated from cardio-rehab, though the pain did prevent me from making any real progress with it. Still, my heart it seems, is at least ok again.
The day I got out of the hospital, my laptop, long suffering and held together with positive thinking and angry stares, finally gave up the ghost completely, leaving me without an accessible computer. I have my old PC here in the garage, but it is ridiculously slow, still operating on windows xp.
I am looking into disability, but have been denied twice already. I see my lawyer about it Wednesday, a disability lawyer who works pro bono. And just after I will be seeing an orthopedist, where we will again talk about surgery I am sure, an option that as of yet has been unavailable to me due to the medications I take for my heart. Though if I understand him correctly, surgery would help with the radiating down my legs, but would likely due little for the back pain.
Still, I am trying to stay in good spirits. I am alive, doing as well as can be expected. My family is supportive.
Anyway, I am just dropping this while the garage is accessible to me to let you know that I have not forgotten or abandoned Datafortress, it is merely that I am unable to update or really work on it for the time being. And all the progress I had made on an the projects I was working on were lost with the lap top. I also can't post on any of the forums I used to frequent, notable View From The Edge and the Cyberpunk 20777 Forum. If you are a poster there, pass on the message that I miss those guys.
Anyway, wish me luck. Stay safe, and thank you everyone for being fans of the site.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-63811616971596197172015-06-26T03:48:00.001-07:002015-06-26T03:49:27.806-07:00Thank you all so very much...I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude. I never dreamed I had this much support. In just a few short days your donations have paid for the next two years of hosting for the site. I am afraid I have never done this before, and so the proper etiquette escapes me. I do noy know if I should give a list of my noble benefactors, or what recognition they desire.
I do know this... I am so profoundly grateful to you all, to everyone who donated money, to the people that shared the links and spread the word, the people who gave a kind word, and the people who have just enjoyed my work over the years. Thank you, thank you all, from the very deepest wells of my heart. <br />
I just lost my job, my medical problems are slightly overwhelming at the moment, and I am afriad keeping a paid host for Datafortress 2020 is just not high enough on the priorities list of necessary expense right now.<br />
<br />
It has been suggested numerous times now, for several years, that I should set up a donations page for the site, and it was an idea I resisted. Mostly out of stubborn pride. However, in light of the fibancial problems I find myself in, it seems this is my only recourse.<br />
<br />
So here we are. I want to thank you all in advance, from the bottom of my heart, for whatever part you play in keeping Datafortress up and running.<br />

The file Project and the Forums are once again up and running, and this time everything is hosted on the same site, so they are up for good, or as long as I pay my bills.<br />
<br />
Yes you heard right, the File Project has returned, The DF2020 files, the Interlock Unlimited Files, the image archive, and yes, the massive Cyberpunk File Archive... they are all back, running smoothly, and all the material is available once more.<br />
<br />
The forums are also back, though all the information from the old forums was lost unfortunately. But hey, a fresh start isn't the worst thing that could happen. It does make me sad, because all the update notes from Interlock Unlimited and a ton of idea bouncing with contributors was there, lost to the ages now, also some contributors had posted some really amazing stuff, I will miss that. <br />
<br />
If 110.mb ever comes back online, I may be able to grab what was lost, but the chances of that are slim I am afraid. And the backups I had were lost when my external hard drive crashed... while I was trying to copy important files like those over to another back... ugh....<br />
<br />
Oh well, enough of the meloncholy and nostalgia, the site is back, whole, and all in one place.<br />
<br />
I have the larger bundles on Drop Box still on the site,so if you want the entirety of the File Project you can still get it. <br />
<br />
Anyway, thanks for all the support while we waited to get back up and running.Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-1285788869517091822014-07-11T20:44:00.003-07:002014-07-11T20:45:51.780-07:00Datafortress 2020 has returned yet again....We are back baby!<br />
<br />
Datafortress 2020 has a new address, and finally has it's own domain<br />
<a href="http://datafortress2020.com/"> http://datafortress2020.com/</a><br />
the side effect of me finally hitching up my pants and getting a paid
host. Expect things to be a little wonky as I Iron out kinks, some of
the links may still point to the old, now dead, site address. The
e-mail links are also still being worked on. In addition,
unfortunately, the host for the Fileproject and forums are still down
most of the time. I will be working to fix these issues, I ask you to
be patient. For your troubles, a special treat:<br />
<br />
INTERLOCK
UNLIMITED has undergone a massive update, the changes are pretty big,
and the project has gained 2 pages in the processs and required me to
redo the character sheets as well. Details of the changes can be found
on the Datafortress 2020 Blog (and at the forums when they are back
up...). If the File Project main link(s) is down, scroll down to the
bottom of the page for a link to the file on Dropbox....<br />
<br />
There is
also a new Character Sheet Tutorial to help you fill out your Interlock
Unlimited Character sheets properly without confusion.<br />
<br />
Due to
the Interlock Unlimited changes, the character sheets themselves have
also had to be updated... The Generic IU Sheets, the Basic Gneric IU
sheets (just the 4 first pages of the generic), The Simple Sheet, The
Cyberpunk 2020 sheets and the full color Elite Cyberpunk 2020 sheets
have all been updated.<br />
<br />
The Hyperlinks page has also been updated.<br />
<br />
We
also have a new contribution in the form of Fight Club from Billy
Billerson, which can be used either as an alternate melee system, or as a
stand alone game...<br />
<br />
The following are the list of changes made to Interlock Unlimited...<br />

<br />
The removal of SMG from the skill list necessitated the following rules additions..<br />
<br />
KNOWING WHICH SKILL TO USE:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Most
weapons are easy enough to determine which skill relates to them, but
some weapons, like SMG’s can skew the line. Any Firearm that is fired
line of sight, but does not have a stock, such as Pistols, Rifles with
the stock removed, sawn off-shotguns, or hand held exotics, use the
handgun skill. Weapons with a stock, fired from the shoulder, use the
Rifle Skill. If the weapon has a folding or removable stock, use the
appropriate skill at the time. Indirect fire weapons, such as grenade
launchers, heavy machine guns fired from a mount, or artillery use the
Heavy Weapons skill. Bows, Crossbows, Blowguns, and Spear guns use the
archery skill.<br />
<br />
<br />
And added to the Concealability explanation:<br />
<br />
Note: adding a Stock to a small arm provides the weapon with a +2<br />
Accuracy bonus. It also changes the range to 250 meters (except for<br />
shotguns) and the weapon now is classed as a Rifle, requiring that<br />
skill to use. Removing a stock from a Rifle imposes a -2 penalty,<br />
changes the range to 50 meters, and the weapon now uses the<br />
Handgun Skill. Adding a fixed stock drops the Concealability by two<br />
levels, and a folding or retractable stock by one. Other modifications<br />
and add-ons, such as scopes, laser sights, and brass catchers, can also<br />
change the Concealability, this is at GM discretion.<br />
<br />
<br />

Minor edits to correct formatting.<br />

<br />
Addition of new rule,<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Optional Initiative Rules 2 (used at GM discretion) –<br />
<br />
Advanced Initiative<br />
<br />
This
method will add more realism to your combats, at the cost of being
slightly more time consuming and creating extra book keeping for the GM.
A chart, beginning at 33 (tics), is created. Initiative is rolled as
normal, with the characters total initiative determining where they
begin on the chart. Actions for the turn are declared. On their turn,
and every five “tics” after, that player may perform 1 quick action and
move at a rate equal to ½ their MA. As the Tics count down, everyone
takes their actions in succession. Movement Quick Actions, Standard
Actions, and Regular Actions begin on the increment they are declared,
and do not end until the Tics have passed. Every 5 ticks equals 1 Quick
Action, every ten a Standard, and every 15 a Full. Any player who has
actions during that time may take advantage against the position the
first character has left himself in. For example, if during your action
you decide to run, it will take you five tics to reach your
destination, if on the third tic another player’s turn comes up, they
can take a shot at you while you are mid run. Firing itself consumes 1
tic, but emerging and re-entering cover from a stationary position still
takes a full 5 tic turn, leaving you vulnerable. Changing an action
from that declared is possible, but costs a quick action.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Any
actions remaining after the tic count reaches zero are lost, however
the actions that were lost can either be spent on defense rolls, or used
to change actions from what was declared.<br />
<br />
<br />
Major
reformatting, 2 images and a page is added to keep formatting straight,
which of course makes keeping track of page changes from this point on
for the rest of this change log rather confusing. Sorry about that...<br />
<br />
Page
35 (was 34) Added new modifiers, including mods for attacker walking
(-2) and changed attacker running mod to -5, added rules for adding a
stock to handguns and smg's, and for removing a stock from a rifle.<br />
<br />
Page 38 (was 37)<br />
<br />
Changed range for bows to BT x 20 (from 10)<br />
<br />
pages 39 and 42 (was 38 and 41, also 26)<br />
<br />
Fixed ranges for casting to be more inline with BT chart on page 3<br />
<br />
Pages 63 64 and 65 (62,63,64)<br />
<br />
Added rules for swimming speed and modifiers.... reformatting and minor edits to sustain book format.<br />
<br />
Page 77<br />
<br />
Moved list of skills introduced by era here.<br />
<br />
As a result of all these changes, there are now 2 additional pages to Interlock Unlimited.<br />
<br />
Enjoy... Wisdom000http://www.blogger.com/profile/06593684960914122092noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136291763165372899.post-31977263116946961802014-03-10T12:58:00.002-07:002014-03-10T13:04:12.740-07:00Two blogs you should check out!Greetings programs,<br />
<br />
If you are waiting for the File Project or the DF 2020 Foums to be up and running again, or waiting on any new information about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game from CDPR, and want something to occupy your time, here are a couple of blogs you should be reading.<br />
<br />
The first is The Vircades Project, brainchild of longtime collaborator Richard Balmer, AKA Companero. Richard is no dick, he is a brilliant young mind with some fantastic ideas going up on this page. My favorite entries are those on running Cyberpunk in a rural setting, something I do a lot since I am fond of running nomad games. Comp is one of the main contributors for Interlock Unlimited, as well as Conflict: South America, and is also one of the driving forces behind Run.Dot.Net, an absolutely brilliant new take on netrunning rules for Cyberpunk 2020. You won't be dissapointed, check out Vircades here:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://vircadesproject.blogspot.co.uk/">http://vircadesproject.blogspot.co.uk/</a><br />
<br />
The second blog is the website of a more recent, though still long time friend and collaborator, Seth Skorkowsky. Seth is the recently published author of the fantastic novel Damoren, and has been working for a while now on helping me with various Interlock Unlimited projects. Providing invaluable edits and playtesting to the IU Magic system and IU Drug rules, and has been working on both a Fantasy setting and a Call Of Cthulhu based setting for IU, which when complete I hope he will allow me to host on DF 2020. His blog is full of insight and personal experience, and is as indelibly interesting way to spend your time. You can find Seth's blog here:<br />
